VESPERS 1610

This is the only edition which keeps abreast of modern scholarship and is flexible enough to suit all performance needs. A three-page PDF can be emailed, outlining the complications and the editor’s approach to solving them, as well as simply listing what is available. There is also a liturgical guide for those who wish to attempt some sort of reconstruction, which includes the antiphons for the principle Marian feasts from contemporary sources.

Essentially there are three versions based on how one interprets the clef combinations of certain movements. For many years it has been accepted that the Lauda Jerusalem and Magnificat settings should be performed down a fourth; this is popularly known as our RED edition. Latterly others have argued that they should be done a minor third and a tone lower respectively, and this is our GREEN version. We also supply an edition of all the music at the pitch chosen by Monteverdi’s printers (the BLUE version, which also includes the Lauda Jerusalem transposed down a tone).

An A4 score costs £15
